Reader FAQs

What is the Reader?

The reader is where you can read, annotate, and interact with your textbooks. Different tools and interactivity will be available depending on your content and account type.

Can I download textbooks?

Yes. When using the Gibbs Smith Education App, textbooks can be downloaded onto the device and will be available for offline reading. These books will be stored in the Downloaded tab of the Bookshelf.

What tools do students and teachers see in the Reader?

Student Tools: Annotate, highlight, and bookmark content. Easily jump to specific chapters, lessons, pages, keywords, bookmarks, notes, and highlights using GSEonline’s advanced navigation features, and listen to text-to-speech audio with sentence-level and word-level highlighting.

Teacher Tools: PDFs for assessments, activities, and lesson guides, PPTs of lessons overviews for students, and lists of third-party links to enhance lessons are available to teachers. Create assessments using the Dynamic Question Bank (DQB) tool or review student annotations with Teacher Review.

Why is a link not working?

Understandably, broken links in the Student Editions are not ideal. However, they are inevitable as domain organization and hyperlinks change all the time and we have no control over that.  In a pinch, teachers should be able to find the content they are looking for by using the Teacher Guide, which lists all the Interactive Content links found in the Student Edition. The Teacher Guide usually contains the title of the third-party webpage and the title of the activity.  If you Google these components, you should be able to find the webpage you are looking for.
