Set Up Gibbs-Smith Education LTI 1.3 in Canvas

Use this guide to configure the Gibbs-Smith Education LTI 1.3 application in Canvas. The setup requires Canvas administrator access and consists of two main parts: creating an LTI developer key and installing the application using the resulting Client ID.

After installation, you must send both the Client ID and Deployment ID to your Gibbs-Smith at support@gibbs-smith.com so Gibbs-Smith can complete the configuration.

Before you begin

Make sure you have:

  • Canvas administrator access
  • A secure place to save the Client ID and Deployment ID generated during setup
LTI 1.3 configuration values

Use the following values when creating the LTI key:

Create the LTI developer key
  1. In Canvas, select Admin.
  2. Select All Accounts or the account where you want to install the integration.
  3. From the account navigation menu, select Developer Keys.
  4. Select + Developer Key, then choose + LTI Key.
  5. In Key Name, enter a name for the integration.
  6. In Redirect URIs, enter:
    https://lti.content2classroom.com/lti3
  7. In Target Link URI, enter:
    https://lti.content2classroom.com/lti3
  8. In Title, enter the display name you want Canvas to use for the tool.
  9. Enter a value in Description. This field is required.
  10. In OpenID Connect Initiation URL, enter:
    https://lti.content2classroom.com/oidc/login_initiations
  11. From the JWK Method menu, select Public JWK URL.
  12. In Public JWK URL, enter:
    https://lti.content2classroom.com/jwks/jwk
  13. Select Save.

The new developer key should now appear in the Developer Keys list.

Important: Copy and securely save the Client ID displayed with the new developer key. You will use it to install the application and will also need to send it to Gibbs-Smith.

Install the Gibbs-Smith application
  1. From the Canvas account navigation menu, select Settings.
  2. Select the Apps tab.
  3. Select View App Configurations.
  4. Select + App.
  5. For Configuration Type, select By Client ID.
  6. Paste the Client ID you saved earlier into the Client ID field.
  7. Select Submit.
  8. When Canvas displays the Gibbs-Smith LTI tool in the confirmation dialog, select Install.

The application should now appear in the account's application list. The guide shows these screens on pages 18–25.

Find the Deployment ID

After installing the application:

  1. Find the new Gibbs-Smith application in the application list.
  2. Select the gear icon on the right side of the application.
  3. Select Deployment Id.
  4. Copy the Deployment ID shown in the dialog.
  5. Save the Deployment ID with the Client ID.
  6. Select Close.

Complete the configuration

Send the following values to your Gibbs-Smith contact:

  • Client ID
  • Deployment ID

Both values are required for Gibbs-Smith to complete the LTI 1.3 configuration on its side.
