How to Use Present Mode in MyGSEBookShelf

Present Mode allows you to display and move through content from your Teacher Guide for whole-class instruction. You can launch Present directly from the Teacher Guide and use it to guide students through the lesson together.

Before using Present Mode, make sure the class you want to use has already started.

Although you are presenting the material to your class, the platform technically creates an assignment when you start a presentation. Because assignments cannot be created before a class start date, Present Mode may not be available if the class has a future start date.

If you receive an error when trying to use Present, check the class start date first.

1. Sign in to MyGSEBookShelf with your teacher account.
2. Navigate to your content by selecting:
   Course > Book > Chapter or Unit > Teacher Guide
3. In the Teacher Guide, locate the lesson or activity you want to present. In most cases, these materials are found under Student Assignments in the right-hand menu.
4. Find the Assign button for the activity.
5. Select the down arrow next to Assign, then choose Present from the menu.
6. Follow the on-screen prompts to select your class and begin the presentation.

Present Mode is designed for teacher-led, whole-class instruction.

Once the presentation begins, you can display the selected content for students and move through the material as you teach.

This can be especially helpful when you want to guide the class through a lesson, activity, source, or other piece of content together rather than having students navigate to it independently.

Presenting content and assigning content are related, but they are not the same student experience.

Students do not need an assignment simply to access their books. They can open their Student Edition directly from their course or bookshelf.

Present Mode, however, uses the platform's assignment functionality behind the scenes. This is why the class must be active before a presentation can be created.

If you select Present and receive an error, start by checking the following:

• Has the class started? A presentation cannot be created for a class with a future start date.
• Is the correct class selected?
• Is the teacher connected to the class?

If Your Class Start Date Needs to Change

How the class date can be updated depends on how the class was created.

Self-registered classes:
Teachers can update their own class dates.

SIS- or integration-rostered classes:
Class dates may be controlled by the school's rostering data. If the date is incorrect, contact your school administrator or Gibbs Smith Education Support for assistance.

Present Mode is a useful option when you want to guide students through digital content together during instruction.

Students can still access their books independently from their own bookshelf, while Present Mode gives you a teacher-led way to bring specific lesson content to the whole class.

If Present Mode is unavailable, checking the class start date is a great first troubleshooting step.
